NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS

What do evaluations involve?

  • Step 1 Interview: Dr. Micklewright begins with a conversation to better understand your questions, and where you are struggling, so that she can design a testing session that provides answers.

  • Step 2 Testing: Dr. Micklewright will explain how to do all of the puzzles, brain games, and activities, as she administers them to you in a comfortable office (or virtually). The testing session is interactive and may last up to a couple of hours.

    • Testing can be done in person or via telehealth.

  • Step 3 Discussion: Typically we can get you results 1 - 2 weeks after testing; sometimes results can even be provided on the day of testing.

  • Step 4 Share Results: You will receive a full report that pulls everything together and gives you a plan of action. It can be for just you, or you can share it with your family, school, or medical team.

  • You are seeking answers or a change in your life. You aren’t alone in feeling nervous or uncertain about the process.

  • Most people are not thrilled by the idea of being "tested,” but clients often share that it “wasn’t as bad” as they had expected or that they actually enjoyed it.

  • Perhaps those nerves you are feeling before the evaluation is excitement or anticipation. Most people are motivated by the prospect of gaining clarity, insight, and a clear path forward. Congratulations on taking the first step toward identifying the “missing pieces” of your puzzle.

  • To prepare for your appointment: Get a good night’s sleep, eat something, bring your favorite beverage, and remind yourself that you cannot fail neuropsychological testing.

    • Take your medications as directed. If you take an ADHD medication, let your provider (as it may be best to skip it on the morning of testing).

NERVES ARE NORMAL.
